The new project to encourage locally produced organic produce by restaurants got off the ground well at the first Gastronomy Day.
Manuel Gonzalez de Molina, Director General of Agricultura Ecológica de la Junta de Andalucía announced in Lucena, Córdoba the creation of a network of Green Restaurants in Andalucía, Red de Restaurantes Verdes de Andalucía. This is a pioneering Project in Spain which aims to encourage the comsumption of ecological products from Andalucia by incorporating permanent menus in restaurants across the area. Andalucia covers eight provinces in the south of Spain and over fifty establishments belonging to La Asociación de Restaurantes Gastronómicos de Andalucía (AGRAS) took part in the Gastronomy Days that took place between 3 -1 6 December. The restaurants offered a variety of menus made up from 100% ecological produce such as meat, fish, fruit, vegetables and desserts. One example menú from the Riofrio area offered sturgeon with green asparagus or jamon and black pudding pate with anis. The second phase of the Project will take place in the second quarter of 2008 where Green Restaurants can participate offering a new and entirely local and ecologicalmenú. Representing AGRAS, Juan Robles, spoke to the restauranteers about there responsibility to support the growing number of organic producers and the now proven nutrional and health advantages that organic produce offers Restaurants that are part of the new and growing network of organic restaurants in Andalucia include: ALMERÍA Y PROVINCIA
