Tapas a bite of Spain is the sixth Spanish cookbook by Mendel but the first one that focuses only on tapas. It covers a wide range of recipes that can be converted into main courses or supper dishes.

The great photographs that are rife throughout the book are by Michelle Chaplow who with food stylists, David Doyle and Joaquin Alarcon travelled from Jerez in the south-west to Barcelona in the north-east for their location shots.

The book itself is nicely laid out with many photographs and great glossy pages so those sticky finger prints will wipe off and this is a necessity as it is a book that will be well-thumbed and well-used.

Tapas a bite of Spain starts with a foreword by Mendel that say it all "I love tapas...." What a great introduction, and who doesn't love tapas. Now with this inspiring instruction manual everyone can produce their own tapas and with over 140 tried and tested recipes to choose from or work through there is sure to be something for everybody.

The books covers such chapters as

  • The tapas way of life
  • Planning a tapas party
  • La Tabla - Sausage, ham and cheese
  • Montaditos y Tostados - BItes on bread
  • Pintxos - Small bites
  • Platos Frios - Salads and cold dishes
  • La Tortilla y mas - Potato tortilla & more egg dishes
  • A La Plancha - Foods on the griddle
  • Cazuelitas - Saucy dishes
  • Fritos - Out of the frying pan
  • Salsas y Aliños - Sauces, dressings, dips & spreads
  • Y para beber - what to drink with tapas

What a joy it will be to go into the kitchen with such an expert on Spanish gastronomy. It's a foregone conclusion that success will be produced on the plates for those that follow these tasty and innovative Spanish appetizer recipes.

But don't forget the wine, Spanish of course, or one of the Sangria recipes that go dwon so well on hot summer days. There are also a variety of non-alcoholic cocktails that look and sound equally delicious.
